Brief

An established e-commerce brand partnered with us during its critical migration from a legacy e-commerce platform to Shopify. The project involved a full data architecture overhaul, syncing Shopify data with legacy models, and integrating third-party tools. Throughout the migration, Blyze Labs ensured uninterrupted reporting across all teams, including C-level dashboards, allowing the business to operate smoothly and track KPIs without disruption.

Key Metrics

  • 🔁 Legacy-to-Shopify migration of all customers and orders

  • 🧩 Integrated Shopify data models with existing data stack

  • 📦 3rd-party tools integrated (Aftership, Rise)

  • 📊 Zero downtime in reporting for C-levels and managers

Industry: E-commerce / Omnichannel Retail

Tech Stack: Shopify · Airbyte · Matrixify · Aftership · Rise.ai · Internal BI Stack

Problem/Goal

The client had made the strategic decision to switch from a legacy e-commerce system to Shopify. While this transition was essential for scaling operations, it came with significant challenges on the data side:

  • Build new pipelines from Shopify (orders, returns, catalog, payments, etc.)

  • Migrate historical data (customers, orders) into the Shopify ecosystem

  • Combine legacy and Shopify data models without losing consistency

  • Maintain real-time reporting during the transition, with no gaps for executives and teams

Solution

We designed and implemented a data migration and integration framework that supported the platform change while preserving operational continuity. The project included:

  1. Data Architecture Redesign:
Built a new data foundation to ingest and model Shopify core objects: orders, customers, returns, payments, product catalog; aligned with existing schemas.

  2. Historical Data Migration:
Successfully migrated customer and order history into Shopify to enable post-migration processes like returns and warranty management.

  3. 3rd-Party App Integration:
Incorporated tools like Aftership (shipping & returns) and Rise.ai (loyalty & rewards) into the data workflows and reporting models.

  4. Reporting Continuity:
Ensured uninterrupted reporting across Looker and other BI tools, allowing teams and leadership to continue tracking key metrics daily—even during the migration phase.

Result

Thanks to a carefully coordinated effort, the client achieved a smooth e-commerce migration with no reporting gaps:

  • ✅ Zero downtime for analytics and reporting during migration

  • 🔗 Integrated new and old data models for seamless historical analysis

  • 🚀 Full migration to Shopify, including customers and order history

  • 🧰 3rd-party operational tools fully reflected in dashboards and KPIs
